First off: I initially reviewed this camera and took one star away because of an issue I found with the power cord being angled the wrong way when plugged in (see picture I’ve uploaded.) After viewing other user’s pictures I’ve realized I had just used the wrong power connection point to plug the camera in. Not sure why there’s 2 different points to plug in the camera. One plug connection on the camera itself (this is the one I used) and one higher up on the actually body of the camera mount. I’ve edited the review to remove my comments about the design oversight with the power cord. This was my fault. That being said this camera is now easily a 5 star product. Please note: the pictures I’ve uploaded of the camera installed on the windshield show the power cord installed incorrectly. I’m leaving them up to show how the camera looks installed, but also to show how I’ve incorrectly installed the power cord on the left of the camera. Compare that to pictures from other users who have installed it correctly, higher up on the mount itself.
Design and Ease of Use:
Large touch screen which allows for super simple operation and toggling through menus and settings. Very simple and straightforward operation. The screen is capable of showing both cameras at once, or one or the other. Simply tapping on the screen allows you to toggle which camera is displaying on the screen. The only faults I can really think of is there’s no options to choose what info you want to display on the final video. My last camera gave me the option to choose whether speed, gps location, time, etc. displays on the output video. This camera just displays it without choice, although it is very subtle and doesn’t distract from the video. Also, there’s no option to change units from kph to mph. Again, not a big deal. Lastly, some of the wording and prompts in the menus suffer from pretty obvious Chinese to English translation. Bizarrely worded prompts or menu options are present here and there. But these are more just a quick laugh than anything.
Front Camera:
Excellent quality. Super wide angle. I’m not sure if I quite believe the 4K claim, but it’s far more than adequate for a dash cam. I’m more than happy with the quality of the front camera picture.
Rear camera:
The rear camera is high def. as well. Very straight forward and wide angle of view.
Features:
Dual cameras, 256 GB SD card capability, WiFi, plus a smart phone app. The app. is a lifesaver and makes this camera worth the money on its own. You can connect via wifi and instantly view and download videos and pictures directly to your phone or device. You can also get a live feed straight into your phone, and even control the camera right from your phone screen while connected to the camera.
Setup and installation:
The cameras themselves were easy to adhere to the windows and the power cords were pretty easy to run. Ease of running the power cords and properly hiding them will depend on your specific vehicle. But the nice part is they include a plastic trim removal tool. The directions definitely leave a lot to be desired. As with some of the wording and prompts during operation. The directions definitely suffer a bit from obvious Chinese to English translation. They’re easy enough to figure out with a little bit of head scratching but they could be better. It’s a dash cam, it’s not rocket science so that’s not the end of the world.
My requirements for a dashcam were as follows: must be dual camera, must have an app that allows instant download straight to a smart phone, must be able to accept up to 256 GB SD card, and must be 4K. This meets all of those requirements and I would purchase again. Will report back on long term use.
